What is LIPODAR 40

• Therapeutic Class: Lipid-lowering agents (Statins)

How to use LIPODAR 40

LIPODAR 40 should be taken once daily, ideally at the same time each day. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully for optimal results.

• Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water
• Can be taken with or without meals
• Continue with a cholesterol-lowering diet while on treatment
• Do not skip doses or stop medication without consulting your healthcare provider
• Routine monitoring of liver function and cholesterol levels is advised

Mode of Action LIPODAR 40

Atorvastatin acts by selectively and competitively inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for the conversion of HMG-CoA to mevalonate—a key step in cholesterol synthesis.

• Reduces hepatic cholesterol production
• Increases hepatic uptake of LDL due to upregulation of LDL receptors
• Results in significant decreases in plasma LDL-C and triglycerides
• Promotes modest increase in HDL-C levels

LIPODAR 40 Interactions LIPODAR 40

Certain drugs may enhance the risk of side effects or reduce the effectiveness of LIPODAR 40:

• Antifungals and macrolide antibiotics (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin): Can raise Atorvastatin blood levels
• Protease inhibitors: May significantly increase the risk of muscle toxicity
• Grapefruit juice: Excessive consumption may elevate Atorvastatin levels
• Warfarin: INR monitoring may be needed due to altered anticoagulant effect
• Fibrates: Co-administration may increase risk of rhabdomyolysis

Dosage of LIPODAR 40

• Usual adult dose: 10 to 80 mg once daily, depending on treatment goals
• 40 mg is typically prescribed for moderate to high lipid targets
• Initial dose may be 10–20 mg; adjust at intervals of 4 weeks or more
• Dose adjustments depend on LDL-C goals, risk factors, and patient response

Possible side effects of LIPODAR 40

While generally well-tolerated, LIPODAR 40 may cause some side effects. Promptly report any unusual symptoms.

• Common: Muscle pain, joint pain, headache, constipation
• Less common: Nausea, insomnia, increased liver enzymes
• Serious (rare): Rhabdomyolysis, liver failure, allergic reactions
• Monitor for: Unexplained muscle weakness, dark urine, or persistent fatigue

• Known hypersensitivity to Atorvastatin or any inactive ingredients
• Active liver disease or unexplained elevations in liver transaminases
• Pregnancy or planning to become pregnant (Category X)
• Breastfeeding women

Storage of LIPODAR 40

• Store below 30°C in a dry place away from moisture and heat
