What is Dexilant?

It relieves symptoms of heartburn, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough. It helps reduce damage from stomach acids, helps prevent ulcers, and may help prevent esophageal cancer. Dexlansoprazole belongs to a class of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors.

The effect of the drug lasts longer than lansoprazole, and therefore it is taken in smaller doses during the day to give complete protection from stomach acids throughout the day.


What are the uses of Dexilant?
It is used to treat erosive esophagitis and gastroesophageal reflux disease by decreasing the production of stomach acids.


What are the contraindications of using Dexilant ?

What are the interactions of Dexilant ?

Dexlansoprazole reduces stomach acid, so it may alter the effectiveness of these products.

Some affected products include ampicillin, atazanavir, nelfinavir, and certain azole antifungals (itraconazole, ketoconazole), among others. Dexlansoprazole is very similar to lansoprazole. Do not use medications containing lansoprazole while using dexlansoprazole. This medication may interfere with certain laboratory tests and may cause false test results. Make sure laboratory personnel know you use this medicine.



How to use Dexilant

Take this medication by mouth as directed by your doctor, usually once daily with or without food.

If you experience symptoms after a meal, your doctor will immediately advise you to take the dose before the meal for best results.

R-enantiomer of lansoprazole; PPI; binds to H+/K+-exchanging ATPase (proton pump) in gastric parietal cells, resulting in blockage of acid secretion.Dual release formulation.

Increased risk of hypomagnesaemia w/ diuretics and digoxin. May decrease plasma concentration of erlotinib, dasatinib and lapatinib. May decrease the bioavailability of itraconazole and ketoconazole. May increase plasma concentration of cilostazol and methotrexate. Reduced bioavailability w/ antacids and sucralfate. Potentially Fatal: May decrease serum levels and pharmacological effects of rilpivirine and atazanavir.
