How to use LEVOZIN 5mg

Proper use ensures maximum effectiveness while minimizing side effects.

• Dosage Form: Oral tablet—swallow whole with water.
• Timing: Once daily, preferably in the evening.
• With or Without Food: Can be taken with or without meals.
• Consistency: Take at the same time each day for best results.
• Missed Dose: Skip missed dose if close to next—do not double up.

Avoid alcohol or sedative drugs while on LEVOZIN unless directed by your physician, as combining them may cause drowsiness.

Mode of Action LEVOZIN 5mg

LEVOZIN (Levocetirizine) works by selectively blocking histamine H1 receptors in the body.

• Histamine Antagonism: Prevents histamine from binding to H1 receptors, which reduces allergy symptoms.
• Anti-inflammatory Effects: May reduce release of pro-inflammatory mediators in allergic reactions.
• Rapid Onset: Begins working within 1 hour of ingestion and lasts up to 24 hours.

Unlike older antihistamines, LEVOZIN 5 mg causes less drowsiness because it has limited ability to cross the blood-brain barrier.

Dosage of LEVOZIN 5mg

• Adults and adolescents ≥12 years: 5 mg once daily.
• Children 6–11 years: 2.5 mg once daily (usually given as half tablet or oral solution).
• Renal Impairment: Dose adjustments needed depending on kidney function (eGFR).
• Elderly: May require lower doses depending on renal function.
