Indications
A mode of administration of interstitial drugs (medications intravenously).

Pharmaceutical form
Bottles or bags of capacity (500 ml and 1000 ml).

Active substances 
An isotonic solution of glucose 5% (50 mg glucose/mL) for intravenous infusion.

Contraindications, side effects, warnings
Sugar solution should not be used for hydralazine application (incompatibility, rapid degradation of hydralazine): use only 0.9% sodium chloride or Ringer s lactate solution.
Other drugs such as amoxicillin + clavulanic acid, aciclovir, phenytoin, bleomycin or chloroquine should also be given via 0.9% sodium chloride solution.
Amoxicillin diluted with 5% glucose should be infused over a period of less than one hour. If the drug infusion period lasts more than one hour, then 0.9% sodium chloride solution should be used.

Nots
This solution does not contain electrolytes or lactate. It is not recommended for intravenous treatment of dehydration. Use Ringer s lactate solution or 0.9% sodium chloride solution.
Its nutritional value is low: 200 calories / liter.

The infusion of hypertonic dextrose injections is contraindicated in patients having intracranial or intraspinal hemorrhage, in patients who are severely dehydrated, in patients who are anuric, and in patients in hepatic coma. Solutions containing dextrose may be contraindicated in patients with known allergy to corn or corn products.

DEXTROSE 5% w/v B.P. Infusion/Solution for Precaution

Care should be taken to avoid circulatory overload, particularly in patients with cardiac insufficiency. Caution must be exercised in the administration of these injections to patients receiving corticosteroids or corticotropin. These injections should be used with caution in patients with overt or subclinical diabetes mellitus. Parenteral drug products should be inspected visually for particulate matter and discoloration prior to administration whenever solution and container permit. Do not administer unless solution is clear and seal is intact. Lactation: Excretion in milk unknown; use with caution
